In a musical extravaganza not to be missed – Brisbane Chorale will join forces with award-winning Oriana Choir to form a 150-strong choir to perform Haydn’s magnificent The Creation in Brisbane City Hall on 20 November 20 at 3pm. The Creation is rightly recognised as a choral and musical masterwork. It’s a highly entertaining and uplifting story, full of drama, suspense, poignancy, beauty and humour. It is a compelling, captivating work of art. And you can forget any perception of The Creation as being serious or ‘heavy’ – from start to finish, it’s joyous, thrilling, exhilarating music.

The Creation is offered to the Choirs’ faithful supporters, and to all lovers of fine music, in a spirit of optimism for the future of choral music in our State and our Nation. The pandemic has had significant social and economic impact on all sections of the arts community, state- and nation-wide. Mounting a project of the scale of The Creation is an inescapably costly venture, but one we see as a wonderful opportunity for the return of the performing arts for all to celebrate!

One of the greatest Oratorios of all time (an oratorio being a large work for choir, orchestra and soloists) Haydn’s The Creation is absolutely magical. Rarely performed – the work will be presented for one concert in Brisbane only (and one concert a week earlier on the Sunshine Coast) at Brisbane City Hall on Sunday 20 November 3pm.

The 150-voice choir will be accompanied by the phenomenally talented players of Sinfonia of St Andrew’s, along with three acclaimed opera soloists: Leanne Kenneally, Soprano, Tobias Merz, Tenor and Jason Barry-Smith, Bass. Conducted by Brisbane Chorale’s music director Emily Cox – this event will be uplifting, inspiring and joyful – a wonderful way to finish the year and a beautiful gift to somebody special who will have a new musical memory to hold forever.
