U3A Expo of Activities wins over new members

An Expo of the activities offered by U3A Rockhampton and District was held at Frenchville Sports Club on 6 February.

An open invitation to the community drew a large crowd of interested people looking for interesting and informative ways to transition from their working lives.

With more than 180 attendees, the U3A committee was thrilled to sign up more than thirty new members on the day.

U3A Rockhampton and District Inc was formed in 1988, offering many activities to its members including gardening, creative writing, birdwatching, mahjong, ukulele playing, choir, IT, financial and current affairs discussion groups, book lovers, photography, walking group, armchair travel, and many more.

A general meeting is held on the first Tuesday of each month at Frenchville Sports Club, and it is always fun and informative with interesting guest speakers.

U3A stands for University of the Third Age, which brings together people who have left their working lives behind, but not from living an active, fun and fulfilling lifestyle. First formed in France in 1973, the concept of promoting learning, fitness and fun for everyone into the years after retirement, their ‘Third Age’, captured the imagination and soon spread throughout the world.
