Tweed Seniors Festival 2025: time to shine

Tweed Shire’s older residents are set to take centre stage as the 2025 Tweed Seniors Festival kicks off from 3–16 March.

This year’s festival features an exciting program of over 40 unique events designed to promote wellbeing, community connections and celebrate the invaluable contributions of seniors across the Tweed.

From creative workshops and cultural experiences to social gatherings and physical activities, the festival offers something for everyone.

Sustainable Communities and Environment director Naomi Searle emphasised the festival’s importance.

“With twice the state average of people over 60, the Tweed is home to an incredible community of older residents who make invaluable contributions every day,” Ms Searle said.

“The Tweed Seniors Festival is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate these contributions while providing a space for connection, learning, and wellbeing.”

The festival will begin with a huge opening ceremony on Monday 3 March at Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre Auditorium, which will include the announcement of the winners of the Local Achievement Awards.

Each year the awards celebrate seniors in our community who have gone above and beyond to help make the Tweed a diverse, active and inspiring place to ive.

The ceremony is a free event and open to the whole community. It is hosted by Council and this year, MCed by Chris Watts, Manager of Tweed Meals on Wheels.

The event will include performances by professional Dancers from Danceland Tweed Heads and traditional old-time music via the Fiddle Faddle band.

Tweed’s official Senior Ambassador of the Year and member of the Fiddle Faddle band Phil Eizenberg said the festival was a fantastic way of showcasing the diverse opportunities available to seniors in the area.

“Seniors are at the heart of our community, and I’m proud to be part of this year’s festival celebrating their contributions. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the fantastic events on offer. It’s a great opportunity to try something new, stay active and connect with others,” Mr Eizenberg said.

Guests at the ceremony will be treated with a delicious complimentary morning tea prepared by the Tweed Hospital Auxiliary.

Before and after the ceremony will be information about local services such as Council’s range of community programs for older people.

Tweed Seniors Festival aligns with the NSW Seniors Festival, the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. This year’s festival theme is ‘Time to Shine!’,
